Equipping Your Child for Future Challenge

The Critical Period of Brain Development

Developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills is vital for students in today's world. These abilities serve as essential tools in adulthood, aiding navigation through relationships, careers, media, and society. Early exposure to STEM activities (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) nurtures these skills during a crucial phase of brain development. Between the ages of 1 and 5, building a strong foundation in critical thinking and problem-solving sets the stage for advanced creativity and more refined critical reasoning in later years.

At Chartwell, our Science program introduces children to the scientific method, guiding them through asking questions, exploring possibilities, testing hypotheses, and drawing conclusions. The program evolves with the seasons and children’s interests, exploring various topics in a project-based format. This approach fosters creative thinking, leadership, and reasoning skills, encouraging students to engage deeply with the world around them.

Building a Strong Foundation for Your Child's Futur

Sensitive Period of Brain Development

We recognize that literacy serves as the cornerstone of advanced learning and overall academic success. Every subject, including math, is rooted in strong language skills. Early exposure to literacy not only supports brain development but also fosters a lifelong love of learning.

Children flourish when they are read to regularly and engaged in meaningful reading and writing activities. For those with limited access to literacy experiences at home, high-quality early education—whether in childcare, preschool, or interactive programs—can make a profound and lasting difference, setting them on the path to success.

At Chartwell, we emphasize literacy as a cornerstone for success both in preschool and life. Studies have shown that learning to read at an early age significantly enhances brain development and paves the way for lifelong academic achievement. Our reading program is thoughtfully designed to teach children not only phonetic skills but also to develop the key components of effective reading.

Through our program, students expand their vocabulary and strengthen their literacy abilities. Teachers carefully monitor each child's progress, ensuring personalized support. Additionally, parents are invited to participate in learning our interactive and engaging letter-by-letter method, which offers a fun and simple way to support reading development at home.

Nurturing Your Child’s Creativity and Emotional Intelligence

Key Period of Brain Development

At Chartwell, we understand that emotional regulation and self-awareness are vital skills developed early in life through relationships and interactions. Emotional control begins at birth, with significant brain development occurring between ages 0-3. During this critical period, children observe and learn from the adults, peers, and environment around them.

A child's ability to regulate emotions directly impacts their relationships, mental health, academic achievements, and overall well-being. Research highlights the adverse effects of stress and anxiety on brain development, emphasizing the need for supportive and nurturing experiences in early childhood.

For young children, limited language and communication skills can often lead to frustration. Engaging in creative activities such as music, dance, drama, visual arts, and imaginative play offers an outlet for expression. These activities not only provide enjoyment but also serve as therapeutic tools to help children convey their emotions, intentions, and experiences.

Through creative arts, children learn to express themselves beyond words, fostering emotional intelligence and empathy as they interpret and connect with the emotions of their peers. At Chartwell, we integrate these enriching experiences to support your child’s social and emotional growth while encouraging creativity and self-expression.

Dance is a powerful form of physical expression that combines movement and rhythm to convey emotions, ideas, and relationships. It provides children with a safe environment to explore their feelings, interpret others’ emotions, and practice empathy. Research indicates that dancing together enhances children’s abilities to collaborate and work as a team.

At Chartwell, dance plays a key role in our curriculum as it nurtures self-expression and emotional growth. It gives children a creative outlet to express themselves fully, building confidence and emotional intelligence in the process.

Teaching Your Child to Make a Difference

Sensitive period of brain development

Children are capable and have the power to make a positive impact. As adults, it can sometimes be easy to overlook a child’s abilities, but it’s essential to recognize that children are constantly shaping their identities based on the world around them.

Children are always observing, listening, and learning. When they are treated with respect, they come to understand that they deserve respect in return.

By showing children that they are capable, they internalize this belief and, in turn, extend this respect and recognition to their peers. Understanding the interconnectedness of communities helps children appreciate their own roles within them.

At Chartwell, we encourage this through the Change-Makers component of our curriculum, which teaches children how to contribute meaningfully to their communities. Through collaborative activities focused on respect, recognition, and the environment, children gain a deep sense of community and empowerment.

At Chartwell, we teach children that their voices matter. They learn to express themselves with courage while also respecting the voices of others. Children are not only encouraged to contribute but also to listen to and observe the contributions of their peers. Through this, they discover how they can positively impact their families, friends, classmates, and communities. Over time, children develop an understanding of how their actions influence those around them and learn the value of caring for others. At Chartwell, children have the opportunity to develop a deep sense of responsibility and empathy, understanding that they can truly make a difference in the world.
